Synopsis

Wide-eyed Julián is about to spend the summer with a grandmother he barely knows. He is amazed to discover her treasure-trove apartment, his own Caribbean heritage and the lively Brooklyn community he issurrounded by.

But mostsurprising of all,Julián discoversthat he is, in fact, a mermaid!

Louise Bagnall

Louise Bagnall is a Director, Animator and Artist from Dublin, Ireland. Bagnall wrote and directed the universally successful short film Late Afternoon at Cartoon Saloon which was nominated for Best Animated Short at the Academy Award® in 2019. She has also directed several other shorts including Cúl An Tí, Loose Ends and Donkey. Bagnall has worked in various roles across her career including as a Character Designer on Puffin Rock and The Breadwinner, a Storyboard Artist on Wolfwalkers and an Assistant Director on Nora Twomey’s feature film My Father’s Dragon. Julián is Bagnall’s debut feature film.

Guillaume Lorin

Guillaume Lorin

Guillaume Lorin is a director from Guadeloupe whose work focuses on amplifying underrepresented voices through culturally grounded storytelling. His multi-award-winning film Vanille combines humor, folklore, and themes of identity, demonstrating the strength of authentic and culturally informed narratives. He is committed to promoting inclusive, respectful storytelling rooted in lived experience.

Mark Mullery

Mark Mullery

Julián’s Co-Director and the Chief Technical Officer of Cartoon Saloon, Mark Mullery has worked with the company since 2013 when he began as an animator on Song of the Sea. Since then he has also served as Technical Director and Composite Supervisor on Netflix’s Puffin Rock, as Technical Director and Assistant Director on Nora Twomey's features The Breadwinner and My Father’s Dragon respectively, and as the Assistant Director on Tomm Moore and Ross Stewart’s feature film Wolfwalkers.
