Will That Anime IP Resonate Domestically and Sell Globally?
— Exploring Winning Strategies Using Viewership Logs, Perception Surveys, and Overseas Demand Data —

Overview

While Japanese anime IP is garnering attention both domestically and internationally, few businesses can yet provide data-driven, objective, and cross-cutting answers to questions such as: "Who in the domestic market is the IP resonating with, and how?" "What drives fans' purchasing intent?" and "In which overseas regions is there demand for the IP?"

This session aims to create a multi-dimensional visualization of anime IP value—spanning from the domestic market to the global stage—by combining three key data sources: TVS REGZA’s domestic viewing logs (covering 5.42 million units with one-second granularity), Knowns’ data on fan sentiment regarding anime, and NEC’s "Demand360" global IP demand data.

Additionally, a panel discussion moderated by Mr. Sudo will explore the "next strategic move" for the anime business based on the insights revealed by this data.

At the launch of the DVD specification/format, to realize a business model combining main content with bonus/special features for the disc business, I built development environments, created demo discs, sold to and secured orders from production companies, and drove bonus-feature trend campaigns in magazine media. In 2000, I planned and developed the world's first HDD & DVD recorder. Following that, in 2012 I launched "MiruColle", a content recommendation service built on REGZA TVs, and then started a viewing-data analytics service (including anime analysis). Currently, I watch roughly 50–70 anime titles per season to completion, and based on that viewing data analysis, I have co-hosted the "Anime Data Award" with announcer Naoki Yoshida every season for seven installments so far (live-streamed on YouTube/X), along with producing related dialogue articles and interview articles with original anime creators.
