“Mobile Police Patlabor” – The Origin of It All!
Created by the five-member creative group HEADGEAR—Masami Yūki, Yutaka Izubuchi, Kazunori Itō, Akemi Takada, and Mamoru Oshii—this groundbreaking series pioneered the era of media-mix anime. A near-future police action story depicting the challenges faced by Special Vehicle Section 2.

Director:Mamoru Oshii

Born in 1951 in Tokyo, Mamoru Oshii began his career at a TV production company and as a radio program director before joining Tatsunoko Production in 1977. After working as an animation director, he demonstrated his unique talent on the TV series Urusei Yatsura (1981–1986), making his theatrical directorial debut with the film adaptations of the series. He also made his live-action directorial debut with The Red Spectacles in 1987.
Oshii served as the anime director for the Mobile Police Patlabor series and continued to create numerous hit works. His 1995 film GHOST IN THE SHELL became the first Japanese production to reach number one on Billboard’s weekly video sales chart in the United States. In 2004, INNOCENCE earned him the Japan SF Grand Prize, the first time an animated feature received this award, earning attention both in Japan and internationally.
He continues to work across multiple creative fields as a film director, animation director, novelist, screenwriter, manga author, playwright, and game creator.
